Fire Safety Month Craftivity, Freebie + Guest Post

Fire Safety Month Craft

October is Fire Safety month!  I’m so glad they do this in our elementary schools and make it such a priority to help our young people be prepared in the case of an emergency.  It is especially great if local firefighters can come to your school (or you can visit a station) and your students can meet these outstanding individuals.  I always found that it eased some of the fears about those scary sirens and masks, and helped students realize that firefighters are their friends and heroes!  I personally always thought it was a great idea for them to speak to the kids while wearing their masks, just in case they are in a real fire and ever hear that kind of “Darth Vader” type voice.

“Fire! Fire!” By Gail Gibbons An oldie but a goodie for teaching about fire safety!

I have created a Firefighter Hero Craftivity that students can make that focuses on the hero aspect of firefighters.  This unit can be used for remembering 9/11, Fire Safety Month, or even when studying community helpers!  It comes with templates for each aspect of the firefighter as well as My Hero is… writing prompt pages.

I also have a fire safety freebie for you!  It’s a Fire Safety Pledge Jumbo Bookmark, great for reviewing fire safety with your kids.

One last thing, I had the HONOR of helping with a guest post on the Beginner Beans Blog today.  Trina is doing a 31 day series on letting your lil’ light shine.  We posted today on how to turn a bad day around.  Head on over to Beginner Beans and check it out.  We would LOVE to hear your tips for turning those bad days into good ones (teacher’s should be pros at this!), so go ahead and leave some comment love while you’re there.

Nice ideas Shae!! I am hoping to use your hero printable this year–its so cute! we are celebrating next week with a visit from the fire station down the street! 🙂 we are coloring special firefighter pictures that say a Thank You! message to give to our fire fighters that come to our school! The kids are sooo excited! We also practice Stop, Drop, Cover and Roll, Fire Drills, and crawling under smoke by holding a sheet above the ground as the “smoke!” 🙂

Those are some great ideas! Some others have even attached their thank you notes to the craftivity and then taken them to the fire station. Cute huh? Thanks for sharing your ideas Angie!
